Wolves started the game with a lot of the ball but Brighton were threatening on the counter attack, and it was the visitors who took the lead.
Matheus Cunha clumsily gifted possession away before fouling Mats Wieffer in the box, with Danny Welbeck converting the resulting spot kick.
In the second half, Wolves surged forward in an attempt to score an equaliser and came close on numerous occasions, but unfortunately tasted consecutive defeats for the first time since the end of January after Brajan Gruda doubled the visitors’ lead.
So, with that said, here’s how the players rated.
Wolves player ratings vs Brighton
Jose Sa – 5
Truthfully, Sa didn’t have much to do during the game, other than fishing Welbeck’s penalty out of the net.
Matt Doherty – 5
Doherty was one of four players substituted at the hour mark. He didn’t have his best performance in a Wolves shirt but he was still decent.
Emmanuel Agbadou – 5
Agbadou was at fault for Cunha’s mistake, putting his teammate into trouble with a hospital pass, something he’s done a few times in his Wolves career but got away with it. That being said, he was still solid in the heart of defence.
Toti Gomes – 6
A typically solid performance from Toti Gomes who didn’t really put a foot wrong in defence, as demonstrated by his 96% pass completion.
Nelson Semedo – 5
Semedo showed energy down the right, as usual, but fans would have been frustrated by his poor final ball, failing to make anything of his chances to create something.
Andre – 7.5
What more is there to say about Andre? He was a tackling machine off the ball and used possession well when he had it. Unfortunately, some of his teammates didn’t perform at the same level.
Joao Gomes – 7
Gomes and Andre were both positive once more for Wolves, and this was another typical display from the Brazil international.
Rayan Ait-Nouri – 8
Showed some dancing feet on numerous occasions and linked up well with Cunha. The Algerian was his lively self down the left and looked the most likely to create a telling chance for his teammates.
Marshall Munetsi – 5
Wolves fans criticised Munetsi against Man City, and the midfielder wasn’t much better here. He was typically good at pressing but on the ball left much to be desired.
Matheus Cunha – 4
A disappointing afternoon for Cunha. Shortly after Welbeck’s goal was disallowed, the Brazilian clumsily lost possession in his own area and then gave away a penalty. He was also guilty of trying to do too much throughout and was hooked on the 59th minute.
Goncalo Guedes – 3
Guedes was given a rare start, and he didn’t do his chances of featuring more in the future any good. He was laboured in his press and unsurprisingly rusty on the ball, snatching at some half chances Wolves created.
Substitutes
Pablo Sarabia – 6
Sarabia made an impact off the bench, creating some chances for his teammates and getting in some dangerous positions.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 5
Strand Larsen struggled to get into the game when he was substituted on, mainly because Wolves just struggled to put a telling final ball in.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 5
Bellegarde had a chance to score from the edge of the box, but blazed his shot over the bar.
Rodrigo Gomes – 5
Offered a bit of a threat in attack.
Mateus Mane – N/A
Came on for his Premier League debut in the final few minutes. What a moment for the 17-year-old!
