Leeds United have set their sights on signing Orlando Gil to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The Whites are in for a big summer transfer window, with Paraag Marathe ready to hand Daniel Farke a £150million transfer kitty for new signings.

Leeds United are prepared to invest heavily in a new spine for the team, with the goalkeeping department among the areas they are determined to bolster.

This comes after Ilan Meslier lost his place as the Peacocks’ number one earlier this year, forcing Farke to call on Karl Darlow to step in for the time being.

And now, Gil has emerged as a genuine option for the Elland Road outfit.

San Lorenzo expect imminent offers for Gil amid Leeds United interest

With Meslier heading towards the exit door in LS11, Leeds United have identified Gil as an ideal candidate to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

Apart from the Whites, Fulham are also interested in signing the 24-year-old from San Lorenzo, according to Uriel Iugt.

The South American journalist reported via his personal X handle on Saturday (10 May) that San Lorenzo are ‘aware’ of the interest in their shot-stopper.

Therefore, the Argentinian outfit know ‘offers will arrive’ for Gil when the summer transfer window opens.

With the Paraguayan contracted to San Lorenzo until 2027, they are under no pressure to sell him this summer.

However, a significant offer from England could be too tempting for them to turn down, just like a move to the Premier League could be too persuasive for the player.

Leeds to sign new number one

Considering Gil’s inexperience, it is hard to see him immediately become the number one at Leeds United, especially in the Premier League.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise if the West Yorkshire outfit signed another goalkeeper with the intention of making him their first-choice shot-stopper.

Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher is among those linked with a move to Elland Road.

Gil, though, could still be roped in as part of a overhaul in the goalkeeping department in a move that could see both Meslier and Darlow leave.
