NICO RASKINS SENDS BARRY FERGUSON A HEARTFELT MESSAGE THAT HAS STORM THE INTERNET AFTER BARRY FERGUSON POST ABERDEEN INTERVIEW

The Gers boss also explained Oscar Cortes’ continued lack of first team action

BARRY FERGUSON has revealed he loves Nico Raskin’s fiery temperament because it reminds him of HIMSELF.

The Rangers boss hailed the Belgian midfielder’s performance in the 4-0 win over Aberdeen.

Raskin assisted two of the goals as Gers won at home for the first time since February 2.

And Ferguson smiled and said: “We’ve had a few arguments, should we say.

“But I don’t mind that – Nico’s a good boy.

“He’s got really good ability, there’s no doubt.

“And I think he’s, certainly from the turn of the year, his levels of performance have been up there.

“Does he remind of of myself?

“That’s why I argue with him!

“But he’s got an opinion and I don’t mind people with opinions.

“I just think if he works on things that we speak about, he’s got a real chance of playing at the top.

“Look, I don’t know his contract situation. I’m just going to enjoy the last couple of games, managing and coaching Nico.

“I think Nico will tell you he wants to be a number six.

“I think he can be a number six, but also I think he needs to add different attributes to his game.

“I think he can play further forward. And it’s good to have that flexibility.”

Incredibly, the victory over the Dons was Ferguson’s first win at Ibrox since replacing Philippe Clement.

He subbed Nedim Bajrami at half-time with the Albanian failing to impress.

Ferguson added: First half, I wasn’t too happy.

“I thought we were a bit pedestrian on the ball and I made a change.

“I wanted a few more runners from midfield to give Aberdeen some problems.

“I thought in the end we ran over the top of Aberdeen.

“It’s just disappointing it was only four. I thought it could have been more. But look, it’s been far too long, seven games without a win. Just happy to get that victory finally.”

Asked about Bajrami’s substitution, he added: “I expect more from everybody because I’m demanding. They might look at me and they might say: ‘there he goes again’.

“But that’s just the type of person I am.

“I’ll try and get everything I can out of players. Some players might not like it. Some will like it. But I’m not going to stand there…

“I know they’re at a brilliant football club. I’m going to make sure I try and get every ounce I can possible out of every single player.

“It’s not just about Nedim.

“He’s got really good qualities.

“He just found it tough today. Again, it’s one of those ones where you have to make decisions.

Ferguson has also warned squad men like Oscar Cortes they need to do more to get into his squad.

He added: “There’s a lot of players that are not getting much game time. But you need to earn your right to play.

“You just don’t play for the sake of playing. You have to earn the right to be in my team.”
