Indeed, Newcastle United will soon have a new badge on their team shirts and general merchandise too.
Supporters will have some say in the matter but, ultimately, the club’s owners PIF have decided to change the iconic logo for the first time since 1988.
Newcastle want to change their crest because the ‘intricate nature’ of the current badge makes it difficult to replicate, so it’ll be fascinating to see what happens next.
Change does not necessarily have to be a bad thing, but it’s a big call from the Newcastle United owners. They simply have to get it right.
Whatever happens, the mere prospect of changing it has sparked debate. On Sunday, beIN Sports host Richard Keys weighed in.

Speaking to Andy Gray on the television station prior to Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, Keys stressed the owners had come to the wrong decision.
He said he liked the current design, suggesting there was nothing wrong with it.
“I think, if you asked the majority of Newcastle United fans without exception – I’m going to go that far – without exception, they’d tell you the same thing,” he said.
“That [the current design], instantly when you see it says Newcastle United.”
He added: “I like that. It says to me ‘power, we’re standing firm, immovable’.
“There’s nothing wrong with it for me.”

Why are there seahorses on the Newcastle United club crest?
It remains to be seen if the iconic seahorses remain on any new design for a club crest at Newcastle.
Newcastle have seahorses on their crest to reflect the city’s maritime history, a fact which may not be known to people outside of Tyneside.
Still, perhaps that could soon change. Newcastle insiders think the seahorses on their crest are lopsided, which makes them hard to replicate on merchandise at scale.
