Rangers are closing in on a new era as the 49ers Enterprises-backed takeover is edging closer at Ibrox.
The US consortium, which includes Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, is looking to complete its deal within the coming weeks.
Red Bull is expected to become Rangers’ new shirt sponsor in the future, with the energy drink giant having close ties with the 49ers.
The Scottish Daily Express reported on 27 April the consortium will also look to expand the capacity of Ibrox, which currently holds 51,600.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it makes a lot of sense to add more seats if there is the necessary ticket demand.
Rangers posted a record-breaking revenue last season after their turnover increased from £83.8million in 2022-23 to £88.3million.
The club’s matchday income rose from £39.9million to £43.8million across the same period.
Rangers could land financial boost after stunning twist
Borson insisted qualifying for the Champions League will make an “enormous” difference to Rangers’ finances alongside their expansion plans.
He told Football Insider: “Clearly, it goes to the extent that they can fill the stadium.
“If there is demand out there for more, it definitely makes a lot of sense.
“With the best will in the world, Scottish Premiership broadcast rights are not going to go materially higher anytime soon.
“Even if they doubled their front-of-shirt sponsorship, it’s only worth £3million more, so that’s not going materially higher.
“Retail will grow incrementally slowly, but it’s not going to move anywhere. So, that really leaves them with what can they do on Uefa?
“How do they get themselves into the Champions League? That will make an enormous difference.
“We know the difference between the Europa League, the Conference League and the Champions League.
“That’s one key lever that they can try and play with, and the other one is gate receipts.”
