Davide Ancelotti links to the Rangers job have been branded ‘really strange’ as one former Ibrox star warned the huge call will end in one of two ways.
The Real Madrid assistant coach – and son of legendary boss Carlo – is under serious consideration to be the next permanent manager of the Light Blues, as reported by Record Sport last night.
The 35-year-old is heavily in the mix and reports are already circulating that he’d bring Los Blancos coach Franceso Mauri as his right hand man with his dad leaving the Bernabeu to take on the Brazil national team job.
Ancelotti talk in Glasgow has hit fever pitch with the club currently subject of an American takeover from 49ers Enterprises and US tycoon Andrew Cavenagh.
Interim boss Barry Ferguson addressed the media today and warned Rangers is no place for a project and you must start winning from day one while he also admitted to not knowing much about Davide when quizzed on him.
Offering his view on the situation, former Rangers defender Richard Foster told Go Radio: “I find it strange. I find it really strange.
“The one thing that everyone put at Barry Ferguson was he had no experience at this level.
“Now at least Barry had played and captained the club. He knows and understands what it is like to be there as a player and be in the environment.
“The fact you have to win every week, you need to beat your rivals and the intensity of the fans and the pressure they put the players under and the pressure that comes from playing at a huge club. I find it all a bit strange.
“I find it that we in Scotland – and I have spoken about this before – if there was a 35-year-old Scottish manager who had been in the same place, assistant coach at Real Madrid but no managerial experience himself but he was Scottish I am not even sure he would be in the same stratosphere.
“But because it is Ancelotti’s son and Ancelotti is a great manager. It seems to me one of the things Ancelotti does really well, is his players love to play for him. That relationship is probably one of his strongest assets.
“Tactics are yeah being able to see a game and changing it. Brilliant you need to be able to do that. But football is simple get the ball in the goal more time than your opponents.
“The depth of tactic, there is a limit to it, so how can he keep being successful and winning? It is because the players are on side and love to play for him.
“We don’t know if the son is as good a man manager as Carlo. You don’t know what is going to happen.
“And the fact you are going ‘we are 17 points behind Celtic or whatever it is. We’ve been really poor this season. We’ve really struggled apart from in Europe and needing to chase after Celtic. And your idea to that is let’s go with someone untried and tested.’
“A really strange decision for me. It is going to go one of two ways. He will come in and be an absolute sensation or he will be gone by Christmas.”
