It doesn’t seem to be a close call, but if Farke can keep Leeds United in the Premier League next season, his case will be made a lot more convincing.

The transfer window provides an opportunity for Farke to heighten his chances, but Gabby Agbonlahor has said Farke’s style of play needs to change.

This was apparent when Bielsa got sacked, as his free-flowing football could only last so long in the top flight.

But there is a clear respect between the two managers who Leeds fans love, and what Bielsa did recently will only increase the admiration.

The Argentine is enjoying his time managing at the latter stages of his career with Uruguay.

But just because he’s in a completely different role to his time in Yorkshire, it doesn’t mean he can’t show his love for the club.

This was clear when Bielsa was announced as president of Leeds Iberia, an overseas fan club.

However, there was more to the story of why it was announced after the Whites had finished the season.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, chairman of the fan project, Martin Bland, explained that Bielsa didn’t want to take the limelight with the announcement, and instead waited for things to quieten down surrounding Leeds’ title win.

“He said that he said around football, there are many bad people who will take any piece of news and twist it to their own agenda,” Bielsa said.

“What he didn’t want was that, in any way, shape or form, anybody suggested that he was interfering in what Leeds were doing, what Farke was doing, and so we were to sit on it until promotion had run its course.

“He said, until we won promotion, and I said let’s just wait until the end of the season.”

Bielsa has probably put an end to a Leeds managerial return

In a dream world, Bielsa would’ve returned to Elland Road and made his mark on the Premier League again.

But after his sacking in 2022, it seemed with him in the final stages of his career, a return to the Whites wasn’t feasible, and now, by taking on this different role, it certainly isn’t.

It’s a real shame for fans who were inspired by his greatness and gives reason for how Bielsa galvanised the club in his tenure.

But all good things come to an end, and even though he won’t return in manager form, it’s clear his affiliation with the club is something he’s cherished.
