Supporters of the Hoops have traditionally gathered to Merchant City after Trophy Day celebrations to mark their Scottish Premiership triumphs in recent years.
Beginning in 2022, the celebration has become an annual event, with the Ultras group, the Green Brigade, recently posting on X about a planned ‘Trongate title party’ for this year.

They released a statement on Thursday morning. It read: “We want supporters of every team in Glasgow to be able to celebrate their successes but ask fans – including those visiting the city – to please avoid disruptive mass gatherings at Merchant City / Trongate and other public places.
“These events and others like them have consistently led to disorder – causing significant disruption for the local community and businesses.
“Damage to buildings and infrastructure robs the public purse of hundreds of thousands of pounds that would otherwise be spent on the essential services we all rely on.

“Enjoy trophy day, but respect the city and your neighbours. Do not attend unsafe and disruptive gatherings in public places like Merchant City / Trongate.”
All this spiel from Glasgow City Council, and they have yet to comment on altering the scheduled Orange Order march set for Saturday morning, despite there being no necessity for it to occur at all, on that date or along the planned route.
Unless I am mistaken, I do not remember any announcements from GCC four years ago when the latest Ibrox club won the Premiership title advising theRangers supporters against assembling in George Square.

Should you want to head down to Trongate on Saturday, you should do so as you wish. If not and fancy heading to the pub or an outdoor space with friends and family, you can do that as well.
The Celtic supporters have absolutely no reason to take heed of any lectures from GCC who would do well to look at what local authorities in Newcastle and Liverpool have done recently and what cities across Europe are doing to facilitate a major success for a club from their city.
Now of those cities permit hateful marches week after week in the way that Glasgow does. It time that this was addressed and maybe GCC’s actions will prompt a campaign to rid Glasgow of these marches once and for all. We can only dream.
What happens if Hampden hosts another European final?
Let’s assume that Hampden Park is to play host to another European final, let’s say it’s Bayern Munich v Barcelona. Both will bring huge numbers of supporters and as any other city in Europe would do they would look to provide facilities for the supporters coming to Glasgow to support their team. Why can’t they do the same for Celtic supporters who, unlike some do NOT cause trouble, battle with police, wreck George Square, rip up and destroy park benches and so on.
Maybe it’s just Celtic celebrations that they don’t like? Well they’d better get used to it. Tomorrow we’re having a party and Glasgow will be green and white.
