James Forrest now joins Celtic top table of goal-scoring pantheons, only four other legends have achieved this feat

James Forrest left it late but managed to make history for Celtic.

The Celtic icon struck in the Hoops’ final Scottish Premiership fixture against St Mirren to grab his first goal of the season.

His strike in second-half stoppage time in the very last second ensured he wrote himself into the history books and what a way to do it.

A fan favourite at Celtic Park, the cheer for Forrest’s goal says all you need to know about the 33-year-old and by finding the back of the net.

By doing so, the homegrown hero has managed to go level with Paul McStay in one record chart.

Watch as James Forrest scores for the 16th consecutive season

Forrest’s late leveller against St Mirren means that he has scored for the 16th consecutive season.

He’s become just the fourth player in the club’s history to achieve this feat and has matched McStay and Jimmy McGrory’s record of 16 seasons in a row.

Only Bobby Lennox and Jimmy McMenemy are ahead of him in the list now, on 17 and 18 seasons respectively and given Forrest’s fitness, there’s every chance he can at least match it.

Below is the moment he continued his goal scoring run.

Where does James Forrest rank in the Celtic all-time top scorers?

Forrest is by no means a prolific scorer and therefore isn’t at the top of the all-time Celtic top scorers list, but still holds a respectable amount.

This Dundee United strike takes his tally to 109 – which is still some way off runaway leader McGrory, who struck over 500 times for the Bhoys.

To even break into the top 10, the winger would need to add another 65 before overtaking Kenny Dalglish.

Never say never, but it seems that feat might be a bit out of reach.
