‘Did him dirty’ – Fans in stitches at Virgil Van Dijk and Richarlison incident you may have missed…

Richarlison has fired back at Harvey Elliott’s ‘30’ gesture by roasting him on social media. This comes after Liverpool clinched their second Premier League title in five years with a dominant 5-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. The former Everton striker, who has long had a tense relationship with the Anfield supporters, became the target of ridicule during the second half.

Not long after coming on as a substitute, the 27-year-old confronted Elliott after the Liverpool midfielder attempted to nutmeg him. Elliott, a lifelong red, responded with a smirk and flashed a ‘30’ gesture, reportedly a mocking reference to Everton’s 30-year wait for a trophy. Curtis Jones was nearby, joining in on the laughter. Watch the incident below:

Getting under opponents’ skin – or refusing to be shaken himself – is a core part of Richarlison’s identity, so it was naïve to think he would let Elliott’s antics go unanswered. In true maverick style, the Brazilian has hit back, responding to a TikTok video highlighting their clash.

Having played 152 times for Everton, just a short walk across Stanley Park from Anfield, Richarlison knows just what the Merseyside derby means to everyone in the city he once called home, and so he couldn’t surely leave Liverpool on Sunday without at least trying to have the last laugh. In the comment section of a TikTok, he commented (see below):

“He wants to reach 30 goals in his career I think”

It goes without saying that Elliott probably won’t be too concerned by the comments after winning his second Premier League title with the club he grew up supporting with his dad. But still, the exchange can go down as yet another Richarlison classic. At the time of writing, Elliott, 22, has 21 goals and 30 assists in 188 club appearances for Liverpool, Fulham, and Blackburn Rovers.

The future seems bright for the young midfielder, though it remains to be seen where he will be next term as rumours swirl about a potential departure away from Anfield. He has played just shy of 500 minutes of football across the 2024/25 campaign, and he could be one of the many players Arne Slot looks to cash in on to upgrade his squad further.

Virgil van Dijk’s brutal gesture to Richarlison reminded fans the Liverpool captain is a cold-blooded phenom.

With the Reds down 1-0 on aggregate to Tottenham going into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, Van Dijk and his teammates knew they needed a fast start in the second leg at Anfield.

Very few would have anticipated that type of start would have included some serious displays of ruthless physicality from Liverpool.

As is often the case with captains, Van Dijk certainly led the way on the physical front.

Unfortunately for Tottenham’s Richarlison, he bore the brunt of it as early as the third minute.

Van Dijk and Richarlison tussled for the ball but it looked like the forward would spin away from his marker.

But Van Dijk wasn’t about to let that happen and clattered into the Tottenham ace by shifting his entire body weight into the Brazilian.

However, vision appeared to show Van Dijk had thudded his elbow into Richarlison’s chest as he went down in pain.

Luckily for Van Dijk, the incident was checked and cleared by VAR.

Yet it was a separate flashpoint between the two that had fans in stitches on social media.

Richarlison was once again bundled to the ground by Van Dijk, this time from behind.

The Liverpool skipper offered his hand to help up his rival, but just as Richarlison reached out his hand, Van Dijk pulled back and ran away.

Unfortunately for Richarlison, his game lasted just 45 minutes as he was taken off after he went down to the ground.

Richarlison’s exit did herald the arrival of electric French talent Mathys Tel for his Tottenham debut.

The Brazilian’s substitution came after Cody Gakpo struck in the 34th minute to put Liverpool ahead on the night and level the tie at 1-1.

Gakpo’s goal was a just reward for the host’s efforts in the opening half as they took 11 shots to Tottenham’s one.

Arne Slot’s side have also enjoyed 73 per cent possession, with the visitors having to repel wave after wave of Liverpool attacks.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, Gakpo’s was the first of four goals conceded as Liverpool booked their spot in a third Carabao Cup final in four years.
