Mathias Kvistgaarden has declared he is ready to move on from Brondby this summer, with Celtic firmly in the frame for the Danish striker’s signature.
The 23-year-old forward has been tracked by Celtic over the past two seasons, and the Scottish champions are keen to push for a deal in the upcoming window.
A clause in Kvistgaarden’s contract could see him secured for a fee in the region of £9 million, CeltsAreHere understands.
The striker’s form in Denmark has caught attention across Europe, and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt are also believed to be in the running. But Kvistgaarden’s comments suggest he is ready to make the step up, a message that will alert clubs hoping to secure a forward with a strong scoring record and room for development.
Speaking to Danish outlet TV 2 SPORT, Kvistgaarden said: “I think I’m ready. I’ve made my mark at Brondby and in the Superliga, so I’m ready to take the next step. I don’t think that’s the goal for me – to remain and play with Brondby next season. I can say that without it being wrong.”
Celtic’s need for additional firepower is heightened by Jota’s long-term injury and little showing from Adam Idah that he can be the Hoops’ number 1 striker.
Kvistgaarden, with 22 goals and six assists in 36 matches to his name this season, fits the profile of a Brendan Rodgers striker – mobile, aggressive, and clinical in front of goal.
With Champions League qualifiers looming, Rodgers will want his new additions in early. Kvistgaarden’s statement might be just the opening the Hoops need to get this one over the line.
