And Ally McCoist reckons the ex-Celtic boss was well within his rights to take a stand.

Amid a dire domestic campaign for Tottenham, Postecoglou has led the club to the Europa League Final.
Spurs will take on Man Utd in Bilbao tonight where not only will the coveted piece of silverware be on the line but also a gold dust place in next season’s Champions League.
A treble winner with Celtic, Postecoglou, 59, has come in for some heavy criticism this season with his time incredibly languishing in 17th place in the Premier League table.
But one particular piece left him fuming ahead of tonight’s huge Euro showdown.

A report in The Standard remarked that Postecoglou is “teetering between hero and clown” with his legacy on the line in tonight’s crunch clash with their league rivals.
In a spiky press conference in Bilbao, the journalist who wrote the piece asked Postecoglou a question but it was the article that was in Ange’s mind as he responded.
The Spurs boss blasted: “I’ll tell you one thing, irrespective of tomorrow, I’m not a clown and never will be.
“You really disappointed me that you used such terminology to describe a person that for 26 years, without any favours from anyone, has worked his way to a position where he is leading out a club in a European final.
“For you to suggest that somehow us not being successful means that I’m a clown, I’m not sure how to answer that question.”
Rangers legend Ally McCoist is out in Bilbao to cover the game and he’s in no doubt that ex-Hoops boss Postecoglou was well within his rights to hit back.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, he said: “He’s quite right. It’s a ridiculous question.”
Playing devil’s advocate, co-host Alan Brazil wondered if Postecoglou would’ve been better off brushing it off and moving on
He said: “I’d just laugh it off me, ahead of a big game.
“Just a week or two ago I thought he was looking a little bit more comfortable but he’s clearly wanted to get off that chair and have a go. He’s got the right hump. He’s had enough of this.”
But McCoist was having none of it, and blasted: “I think he’s well within his rights. I think it’s a ridiculous question. I think it’s a stupid question.
“To label him a clown, it’s just wrong on so many counts.
“So I think he’s well entitled to fight his corner. I think it’s a stupid question.”
Brazil then remarked that it was Postecoglou himself who had actually brought up the ‘clown’ terminology during the tense conference.
But McCoist continued to insist that he fully backed the Australian’s right to reply.
McCoist continued: “I know what you’re saying, sometimes it’s maybe better to let it go in one ear and out the other. My own opinion, I thought that overstepped the mark.”
He added: “I think he did kind of bat if off to be honest with you. He let him know he wasn’t happy. I’d have found it stranger if he’d not reacted to that.
“I think that overstepped the mark, Al, by a distance. I’m with Ange on this one mate.

“That’s personal. That’s got nothing to do with his ability to coach, manage or pick a team or get results, that’s way above that. That’s not the game for me. I’m in Big Ange’s corner all day with that one.

The topic of the guard of honour – or lack of – was also raised on the airwaves this morning. Rangers’ players didn’t clap their Celtic counterparts onto the field as a mark of respect for their latest title win.
This was a decision McCoist was fully behind. He added: “Do you know what they should do? Behind both goals both sets of fans should have a cup of tea and a get together and a bit of cake.”

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Rodgers’ future as he approaches the final year of his contract at Parkhead.
He penned a three-year deal when he returned to Glasgow in 2021 as he replaced Ange Postecoglou who left for Tottenham.
And McCoist reckons there’s a chance it could be groundhog day this summer – but in London – with the Aussie potentially on his way out of Spurs at the end of the season.
Postecoglou, 59, will reportedly leave Tottoenham at the of the current campaign even if he leads them to Europa League glory.

Spurs are in the midst of a disastrous Premier League season and are currently sat 16th in the table with six games to go.
But they are remarkably three games away from securing Champions League football next season – should they win the trophy in Bilbao next month.
That would see Postecoglou fulfill his prophecy of ALWAYS winning silverware in his second season at a club.
However, reports state that even that won’t be enough to secure his future in North London, with Spurs chiefs said to have already made their decision to axe him.
And McCoist believes Rodgers could be in the frame to replace the Aussie again for a second time.
Discussing the latest developments regarding Postecoglou on talkSPORT’s Breakfast Show, McCoist threw the Celtic manager’s name in the ring as a potential option on the shortlist.

He said: “Yeah, in the big one. The big one. I just think you could be right. Brendan could move there. He nearly won it with Liverpool didn’t he?”
“So if you’re looking at pedigree. But then would Spurs then say they took a Celtic manager and it didn’t work?”
McCoist added: “I know what you mean but Brendan has previous, doesn’t he? He’s done exceptionally well down here.”
