What Fans Said About Jobe Bellingham’s Sunderland Display in Play-Off Final

Jude Bellingham is one of the biggest names in world football right now. The Englishman has established himself as an elite player, first and Borussia Dortmund and then at Real Madrid.

His debut season in Spain was miraculous as he helped deliver a La Liga and Champions League double. All the while, however, his brother Jobe Bellingham has been working on his craft back in England.

Indeed, having also come through the Birmingham City academy, the younger sibling joined Sunderland in 2023 and has since proven himself to be a valuable player for the Black Cats. As such, he’s been linked with a number of big clubs ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window, with both Manchester United and Crystal Palace linked at different times in recent months.

Having played 40 times in the Championship, Jobe started in the play-off semi-final win over Coventry before then starting again at Wembley in the final against Sheffield United. There was plenty of interest in his display, too.

Black Cats Promoted to Premier League

Sheffield United grabbed the lead in the 25th minute through Tyrese Campbell, and it took until the 76th minute before Eliezer Mayenda found an equaliser, somewhat against the run of play. Tom Watson then stuck a winner in the 95th minute to send the Black Cats into the Premier League.

All eyes were Bellingham throughout, and the 19-year-old left many excited as he delivered the goods despite the pressure of playing in the ‘richest game in football’, with a spot in the English top flight on the line.

The teenager played the full 90, and showed impressive composure on the ball, completing 50/55 attempted passes, including one key pass. He worked hard with one tackle and 6/11 duels won and was involved plenty, with only five players managing more than his 66 touches. What’s more, only Daniel Ballard (7.9) picked up a higher SofaScore match rating among the Sunderland players.

A third chimed in with: “Enzo le Fee & Jobe Bellingham cooked that midfield all season long.” Before another said: “Jobe Bellingham is a baller.”
