Police Respond to Major Incident at Crystal Palace FA Cup Parade

On May 26, 2025, Crystal Palace Football Club’s FA Cup victory parade, celebrating their first major trophy in 120 years, was overshadowed by a significant incident in South London. The open-top bus parade, starting at 1:00 PM from Whitehorse Lane and moving through Park Road and Holmesdale Road to Selhurst Park, attracted thousands of ecstatic fans. However, a disturbance near the stadium prompted a swift police response.

The Metropolitan Police issued a statement describing a “major incident” at around 2:30 PM near Selhurst Park, where a group of individuals engaged in disorderly behavior, including the unsafe use of flares and fireworks. The large crowd and confined space heightened safety concerns, leading to immediate police intervention. Officers dispersed the group and made several arrests, with no serious injuries reported. Emergency services remained on standby to ensure public safety.

A police spokesperson said, “We are collaborating with event organizers and local authorities to maintain order and ensure the celebration continues safely. We urge the public to act responsibly.” The incident sparked mixed reactions, with some fans condemning the disruptive behavior while others celebrated the historic win. Local residents expressed concerns on social media about the impact of “rowdy” fans and pyrotechnics on South Norwood’s community image.

The parade, organized with Croydon and Bromley Councils, was meant to be a joyous occasion, culminating in a ticketed event at Selhurst Park with live entertainment and a trophy presentation. While most fans enjoyed the festivities, the incident highlighted challenges in managing large crowds. Crystal Palace FC issued a statement thanking fans for their support and urging cooperation with authorities to prevent future disruptions.

The police are continuing their investigation and have called for witnesses to provide information. Community leaders emphasized the need for balanced celebrations that honor the club’s achievement without compromising safety. As Crystal Palace basks in their FA Cup glory, the focus remains on ensuring such incidents do not detract from the pride and unity this victory has brought to the club and its supporters.
