Newcastle United already announces preseason matches against unlikely opponents

Newcastle United have announced two summer pre-season friendlies against Spurs and a K-League Select XI.

An official announcement in the early hours (UK time) of Tuesday revealing the news.

These will be the first time in the club’s history that Newcastle United play matches in South Korea.

United had already confirmed pre-season friendlies away at Celtic and also a game against Arsenal in Singapore.

Newcastle United say that fixture dates and ticket details will shortly follow for the Spurs and K-League Select XI matches.

Newcastle United official announcement – 27 May 2025:
‘Our men’s team will play matches in South Korea for the first time in the club’s history this summer. 

Ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, we will take part in the prestigious Coupang Play Series 2025, one of Asia’s biggest summer sporting events.

Eddie Howe’s men will head to South Korea for two highly anticipated games where we will face a K-League Select XI, followed by an all-Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Venues and fixture dates are set to be announced in coming weeks, along with ticket details for fans in South Korea as well as those wishing to travel to support us.

The Coupang Play Series is organised by and promoted by Pitch and Coupang Corp. and has previously seen some of the world’s biggest teams play in South Korea, such as Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla FC, FC Bayern Munich and Atlético de Madrid.’
