Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr will soon expire and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is looking increasingly likely to leave and sign with a team appearing in next month’s Club World Cup, according to The Telegraph. With speculation rife around the 40-year-old’s future, the report notes Moroccan side Wydad and Mexican outfit Monterrey as two clubs who could snap the former Real Madrid star up on a short-term deal for the newly-expanded FIFA tournament.
Wydad won the 2022 African Champions League and take on Manchester City, Juventus and Al-Ain next month, while Monterrey, the current club of Ronaldo’s old team-mate Sergio Ramos, face Inter, River Plate and Urawa Red Diamonds. However, they are not the only teams interested in snaring one of the game’s all-time greats for the tournament.
Another potential landing spot for Ronaldo could be Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr’s Saudi Arabian rivals. They qualified for the Club World Cup as 2021 AFC Champions League winners and could offer the ex-Manchester United forward the chance to face former side Madrid.
A big decision awaits Ronaldo as he targets an appearance at the tournament. Al-Nassr still seem hopeful of a contract renewal, but all the signs seem to point towards their superstar leaving imminently for a new challenge.
