“It is clear” – Bryan Mbeumo update as Thomas Frank responds to Newcastle interest

After a career-best campaign at Brentford, Bryan Mbeumo looks set to depart the Bees this summer with a number of clubs vying for his signature.
Of course, Newcastle United are one of them, where the Cameroonian could finally be the answer to finding a top-class right winger to boost our attack.
However, as resigned as Brentford seem to be towards losing their star man, it’s still expected to take a big fee in order to sign Mbeumo this window.
And now Brentford boss Thomas Frank has opened up more about Mbeumo’s current situation in West London, and what measures it might take a club like Newcastle to sign him.
Brentford expect big Mbeumo fee
Speaking to the media, Frank emphasised just how much Mbeumo means to Brentford, and what his side should expect from rival clubs if they’re wanting to sign the winger.
Discussing reported interest from Newcastle and Man Utd during an interview with TVplay, he said: “It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot,”
“Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done. There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.”
Having signed from Troyes back in 2019 for just £5.8m, Brentford have been reported as wanting at least £50m from any potential suitors.
Mbeumo a perfect fit?
When it comes to player profiles and fitting into our squad, there’s perhaps no player currently active in the Premier League who suits us more than Mbeumo.
Still yet to enter his prime, and relatively affordable compared to his peers whilst boasting substantial domestic experience, it’s a move that seems like a no brainer for every club in the division.
Something which Thomas Frank can’t express enough: “I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer. How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club?”
“And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player.”
With the advantage of Champions League football on our side, and a desire to finish our first bit of summer business relatively quickly, us fans can be optimistic that if we’re serious about signing Mbeumo that we can nail down a deal sooner rather than later this summer.
