Leeds United are keen on signing Emiliano Buendia from Aston Villa as Daniel Farke wants to bring a No.10 for their upcoming Premier League campaign.
According to Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Emiliano Buendia is high on Leeds United as discussions are underway to explore a move for the Argentine. The Aston Villa playmaker would be allowed to leave the club as he’s no longer part of Unai Emery’s plans, and he could get a chance to reestablish himself in the Premier League with the newly promoted side managed by Daniel Farke.
Emiliano Buendia was a big talent when Aston Villa decided to splash £33 million to sign him after a tremendous season with Norwich City in the Championship. While he has never managed to hit the same heights with the Birmingham-based club, there has always been a belief in him to deliver at some stage.
Unfortunately, that may never happen at Aston Villa, as Unai Emery has seemingly moved on from him and barely used him this season before his loan move to Bayer Leverkusen in January. At the German club, he has not been the clear starter, making the starting lineup only three times in his eleven League appearances.
Despite that, former Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso had a big opinion of the £33 million Aston Villa playmaker, suggesting he ‘cannot be praised enough’. Alonso said, “He was always ready to play. Approaches every training session with a great attitude, and we need that good impact from all the players.”
While he may not have a clear future at Leverkusen beyond the expiry of his current contract, there is still a way to re-establish himself in the Premier League. Leeds United are interested in Buendia, as Daniel Farke eyes a new No.10 for the upcoming season in the top flight.
While Buendia could not get past his competition at Aston Villa, largely due to massive spells on the sidelines with injuries, he still has what it takes to make a mark in the £33 million Aston Villa playmaker they could have an experienced attack-minded player in their side.
Other names like Southampton’s Matheus Fernandes have been mentioned, although signing someone with the experience and knowledge of Emiliano Buendia would make much more sense for Farke’s side. Any deal will depend on how much Aston Villa will demand to sell the Argentine, as he still has two years left on his deal, which could see Leeds United part ways with a hefty fee.
