Newcastle United are set to part ways with £13million flop Jamal Lewis this summer.
Jamal Lewis is no longer on Instagram as he enters the final days of his Newcastle United career.
A disastrous five years at St James’ Park is set to end when the left-back’s contract ends next month. Signed for £13million in 22020 during Steve Bruce’s reign as manager, Lewis was billed as Newcastle’s long-term answer at full-back.
However, that never proved the case, with just 36 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions. He last started for Newcastle in a 4-0 defeat to Leicester City almost four years ago.

Recent times have seen Lewis loaned out to Watford and, surprisingly, Sao Paulo at the start of the 2024-25 campaign. But the 27-year-old’s bad luck continued when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury just six games into his South American adventure.
Lewis has spent the last few months recovering while trying to find a new club. It is no secret that Newcastle will allow Lewis to leave when his current deal expires on June 30.
Eddie Howe surprised by Premier League inclusion
Eyebrows were raised when Lewis was named in Newcastle’s 25-man squad for the remainder of the season. This happened just days after Lewis Hall suffered an injury at Liverpool which led some to believe the forgotten man would stage a comeback.
Eddie Howe was quick to dismiss those claims as Lewis watched on from the sidelines for the rest of the season. He told reporters: “Jamal’s currently injured and receiving treatment, but he’s not receiving treatment here. I think that was something we had to do as a formality, really.”

“It was the night our transfer window shut, my agent informed me that Sao Paulo could be interested, and he said it could move quite quickly. I said I’d be 100 per cent interested, and it then moved at 100 miles an hour.
“There were (other) possibilities, and with me being able to move on from Newcastle, there is always going to be interest and offers, but this one, once I heard it, it was a no-brainer. I think some people probably thought it was quite random and out of the blue, and I can’t argue with that but, if Sao Paulo were interested in my profile as a player and I’m interested in representing such a big club, it could be the start of a great journey.”
