‘Newcastle to step up Jack Grealish move after Anthony Gordon offer accepted’

Newcastle United will step up their efforts to sign Man City star Jack Grealish if Anthony Gordon completes a move to Liverpool this summer.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Gordon’s exit would force Eddie Howe’s side into the transfer market.

Grealish has been identified as one of a number of options to replace him, as he is expected to be made available for both permanent and loan moves by Man City.

Brown told Football Insider on 30 May that City would prefer to sell Grealish permanently, but may be forced to accept loan offers due to his lofty wage demands.

Gordon, meanwhile, has been subject to interest from both Liverpool and Arsenal and could be allowed to leave St James’ Park if a “huge” offer arrives.

Football Insider revealed on 22 May that Liverpool have reignited their interest in Gordon as the Magpies privately value him at around £100million.

Anthony Gordon sale opens door for Newcastle to sign Jack Grealish

Brown told Football Insider on 27 May that Newcastle have set their sights on signing Grealish as Howe believes he would be a good fit for his squad.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Gordon’s future could dictate whether they are able to make the move.

“Gordon leaving Newcastle would open the door for Jack Grealish,” he told Football Insider.

“Liverpool have been having a look at him and could make a move when the window opens.

“So if Newcastle lose him, Grealish is one of the names who would fit them nicely either permanently or on loan if City allow it.

“They’d prefer to do a loan if it was possible, but say they get big money from Gordon’s sale, it would allow them to make that move permanent.

“If Grealish has a successful loan spell and makes a massive impact, they could make it permanent.

“That’s what Man City would want, it would work for Newcastle, and Liverpool could play a big part in it if they go ahead and sign Gordon.

“It’s a lot of things to fall into place, but it makes sense for everybody involved.”

Eddie Howe eyes James Trafford swoop after Nick Pope latest

Newcastle are eyeing a number of key targets ahead of the summer transfer window as Howe aims to strengthen his squad, including a new goalkeeper.

Football Insider revealed on 31 May that Newcastle could overpay to sign James Trafford from Burnley following their promotion to the Premier League.

Trafford is seen as a long-term replacement for Nick Pope, who has been heavily linked with a move away from St James’ Park, but the deal will be difficult to pull off.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Newcastle will try to sign Trafford regardless of Burnley’s situation.
