Ex-NUFC youngster gets his move

Former Newcastle United academy star Oisin McEntee will join Hearts this summer after leaving League Two side Walsall. The Republic of Ireland youth international, now 24, captained United’s U18 and U23 sides.

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes said: “It’s great that we’ve been able to get this deal done and we can now welcome Oisin to the club. It became clear in our conversations that Oisin is hungry, he wants to learn and improve, and he wants to be part of what we’re trying to do here at Hearts.

“He’s a ball player whilst being physically imposing, and an extremely versatile player. He’s played in defence and midfield, so to have options around his positioning is a big plus. Oisin’s gained a lot of experience down south and he has knowledge of Scottish football too, which is a bonus, and I’m sure he’ll fit in well to the squad we’re building.”

Chelsea identify top target

Chelsea could end any interest in Newcastle target Marc Guehi by making a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The centre-back had been linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, but could now join Chelsea after Enzo Maresca’s side idenitfied him as top target.

Chelsea had been in the running to bring Guehi back to Stamford Bridge, but with several central defensive options already available to Maresca, a move for Branthwaite will likely mean they step away from any deal for the England defender.

Inzaghi claims

File this one in the leftfield category . . . Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has told talkSPORT that Newcastle and Spurs held ‘advanced’ talks with Inter boss Simone Inzaghi. The Italian saw his side crash to a 5-0 Champions League final defeat to PSG last night, with speculation over his future now rife, with Saudi club Al-Hilal keen.

Claims that Newcastle could be interest seem unlikely given Eddie Howe’s current standing at the club, with the links likely to have come from last autumn. But Palmeri told talkSPORT:

“The situation is that Al Hilal offered him £25million per-season for two seasons. I can tell you that he had advanced contacts with both Newcastle and Tottenham but at the same time, the priority for him is to stay at Inter.”

Everton have reportedly enquired about taking John Stones back to Merseyside from Manchester City. Now 31, the England defender would have to take a pay cut to move to the Toffees, with a transfer fee although thought to be beyond David Moyes’ side.

Goalkeeper hint

Reports in France suggest Burnley are targetting Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir – which could be significant in Newcastle’s pursuit of James Trafford.

United have been keen on the England U21 keeper for some time, but Burnley want to keep him at Turf Moor. However, L’Equipe report that the Clarets could be about to make a move for Cakir, suggesting they may be braced for a Trafford exit.

PSG transformation

How many of us watching PSG demolish Inter Milan in last night’s Champions League final were thinking back to Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Luis Enrique’s side in 2023?

The French outfit strolled to a 5-0 success in Munich, but it was hard not to dwell on how United should have beaten them TWICE in the 20323-24 campaign, but for a VAR howler which awarded PSG a penalty to earn a 1-1 draw in Paris.

Just four of the side which United turned over on that famous St James’ Park night started the final – Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembele.

New striker link

Reports in Italy this morning suggest Newcastle could make a move for AC MIlan frontman Tammy Abraham. The former Chelsea striker was a target for United under Rafa Benitez in 2017, but were not able to get a deal over the line.

Eddie Howe is looking to increase his striker options, with too much of the burden currently falling on Alexander Isak, and Abraham is one of many players who could leave the San Siro this summer.

Capped 11 times by England, the 27-year-old scored 10 times in 44 appearances for Milan last season, but only three in Serie A. He is thought to be available for around £15m-£20m.
