Chelsea are thought to be in the market for a new midfielder, having passed up on signing Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal following his loan spell last season. The Italian international, who is believed to be high on Enzo Maresca’s transfer wish-list, reportedly has a significant release clause. Maresca hopes to secure Tonali’s services by offering Newcastle seven players, including Robert Sanchez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Defenders Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi, not to mention midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, have also been offered in exchange. Tonali, 24, has been an integral part of Newcastle United’s squad, providing energy and creativity in midfield. Despite his performances, Chelsea hope to snap him up ahead of participating at this month’s Club World Cup. The West London outfit face Leon, Flamengo, and ES Tunis in the group stage phase of the competition, which takes place in the United States.
