Karl Darlow was criticised for his performance in goal as Wales went 3-0 down in 27 minutes, but they remarkably came back to make it 3-3 before losing late on.
Leeds had three players in the Wales starting XI, with Dan James also missing through sickness, and they earned mixed reviews.
While Darlow and Ethan Ampadu hardly covered themselves in glory, Joe Rodon has now been lauded for his display.
Rodon praised despite Wales defeat
Rodon started at centre-back alongside Chris Mepham, but while his teammates struggled, he shone despite the circumstances.
The 27-year-old was composed on the ball, completing 93 of his 96 attempted passes, the most out of anyone on the pitch, and was lauded for his display in the Welsh media.
Y Clwb Pel-Droed gave Rodon a 7/10 rating, the joint-highest out of any Wales player, and singled him out for praise.
The Leeds star was labelled “the best-performing defender,” and his role in winning important duels and making several clearances was praised against Romelu Lukaku.
However, SportsDunia were more critical, as they gave Rodon a 5/10 rating and pointed out that he was “sloppy” in some of his defensive work.
Rodon’s key influence for Leeds
Rodon is a key player for both club and country, and was one of Leeds’ most consistent players over the course of the Championship season.
The defender played 90 minutes in all but one of Leeds’ 46 league games, with his supreme fitness vital as he helped Daniel Farke’s side maintain continuity in the back line.
Now coming into his prime years, the Welshman is stepping up as a key leader for both Leeds and Wales, and will play a huge part in the Premier League next season.
Rodon already has 15 Premier League appearances to his name with Tottenham when he was much younger, but will now return to the top flight as an experienced and important part of his team.
