Celtic have confirmed that Kieran Tierney will wear squad number 63 following his return to the club, reclaiming the shirt he made iconic during his first spell at Parkhead.
Celtic showed the returning star in his shirt at the end of their second announcement video.
The number holds personal significance for the left-back, wearing it from his Celtic debut right through to his last game.
Now back at Celtic and tied down on a five-year deal until 2030, Tierney will resume his career in the same number that saw him lift multiple league titles, Scottish Cups and League Cups before his £25 million move to Arsenal in 2019.
The decision to stick with 63 is another nod to his deep connection with the club and the supporters, many of whom still consider him one of their own. His return has been met with widespread delight among the Celtic fanbase, and seeing the number 63 back on the pitch will only add to the sense of nostalgia and anticipation.
Tierney is expected to report for pre-season next month, with friendlies against Queen’s Park, Cork City and Sporting CP on the horizon, before the trip to Lake Como.
His return in the 63 jersey goes to show that, while he has experienced football at the top level elsewhere, his heart has always remained in Paradise.
