It has emerged that Thomas Frank tried his best to take two Tottenham players to Brentford in the past, and the Dane will now finally get an opportunity with the pair at Hotspur Way.
Tottenham are expected to give Frank a lot of money to spend this summer as they aim to build a squad which can cope with the demands of Champions League football, a tournament which the Dane has never managed before.
According to reports, Frank has already told the Spurs hierarchy what his priorities are this summer, with the 51-year-old identifying three areas he is keen to reinforce.
However, we know that the Tottenham head coach is a big fan of some of the players already in the squad, as evidenced by the fact that he tried his best to take a couple of them to West London.
Frank tried again and again to land Brennan Johnson
The Mirror have claimed that Thomas Frank has had a long-standing interest in Brennan Johnson, having repeatedly tried to take him from Nottingham Forest to Brentford before Tottenham came calling.
The Bees had multiple offers for the Wales international rejected during January of 2022 and pushed hard again to sign him during the summer of 2023.
The new Tottenham boss allegedly saw the 22-year-old as the ideal choice to get goals for his side after Ivan Toney was hit with an eight-month ban.
However, Brentford had a £40m bid rejected for Johnson, with Tottenham eventually paying £47.5m to sign him from the City Ground two years ago.
Tottenham stole Archie Gray from under Thomas Frank’s nose
The Lilywhites once again got one over Brentford last summer by beating them to the services of Archie Gray.
The Mirror says that the teenager was close to joining the Bees from Leeds United in a £40m move last summer, but the move fell through as Daniel Farke’s side were unhappy with the structure of the deal.
That allowed Tottenham to swoop in and pay the same fee to land Gray, who will now have a chance to work under Frank at Hotspur Way, 12 months on from snubbing the 52-year-old in favour of Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs.
