There were no bonus points handed to those who guessed that Arsenal would finish second – having now achieved that feat three successive seasons on the spin now – while Pep Guardiola’s side’s end-of-season form saw them just about claim third. Other narratives drawn up were that of Nottingham Forest’s surprise run to European qualification, while Tottenham and Manchester United slipped to their worst-ever league campaigns since the 1992 rebranding.
All of the above is still very fresh in the memory, but football really does never sleep, and predictions for the next term are already being drawn up. A concerning pattern at the foot of the table is tipped to continue next season. This year, the three promoted teams all went straight back down and that could well be the fate for Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland, should the supercomputer prove to be correct.
However, the projections do suggest that this trio will at least put up a stronger fight than last season’s hair-tearing campaign. Sunderland are expected to finish bottom, but with six more points than Southampton managed. Leeds are tipped for 19th, but 12 points better off than Ipswich Town were. While Burnley will also miss survival, racking up 40 points – 15 more than Leicester City achieved this past season.

Bottom Half
Man Utd & Tottenham struggle again, Wolves evade relegation
Manchester United and Tottenham will find themselves battling at the bottom of the table once again. Thomas Frank isn’t expected to improve much upon replacing Ange Postecoglou, guiding Spurs to a 15th-placed finish, two places above their 2024-25 finish.
Ruben Amorim is already under huge pressure and it’s unlikely he’d remain in the job if the Red Devils finish in their projected 14th place. They are expected to pick up just two points more than the 42 they managed last season.
Everton might feel they belong higher up the table, especially with their stadium move coming amid David Moyes’ impressive return. The supercomputer forecasts a 16th-place finish, three places and six points worse off.
Vitor Pereira is tipped to save his side from relegation once again, doing so by a mere point in 17th place. They embark on a new campaign without talisman Matheus Cunha and key man Rayan Ait-Nouri.
There is little improvement at the London Stadium, although West Ham United is projected to move one place up to 13th next season. The Hammers reach 45 points but suffer 17 losses along the way.
Fulham fans, who were labeled among the Premier League’s most deluded according to one recent study, are also unlikely to be thrilled with a predicted 12th-place under Marco Silva, going backwards and perhaps highlighting the need to retain star men.
Nottingham Forest were the surprise package of the 2024-25 campaign, but a projected 11th-place finish next season will likely serve as a reality check as they look to juggle European football with domestic demands.

Brentford do the unthinkable while Chelsea drop out top five
Andoni Iraola’s fine first season in charge at the Vitality continues although his Bournemouth side move down from ninth to 10th. The Cherries still hit the 50-point mark which is a superb outcome given they had long been yo-yoing between the Premier League and the Championship.
Brighton and Crystal Palace continue to grow stronger, and the A23 rivals manage respectable eighth and ninth-place finishes. That’s a solid achievement for Oliver Glasner as the Eagles are set to tackle a Europa League campaign after their FA Cup win.
Brentford will head into the new season without Thomas Frank at the helm, but the release of the fixture list has resulted in a remarkable rise for the Bees. Not only is Frank’s replacement projected to achieve a top-half finish, but they will also secure a club-record-high finish of 7th place, potentially claiming a place in the Europa Conference League.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s runners-up run is expected to come to an end. This could prove costly for Mikel Arteta, especially if the Gunners falls short with either Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres spearheading his attack.
Aston Villa, one of two clubs staking a serious claim to the ‘new big six’ status, are expected to reclaim their place in the Champions League. That would feel like justice for Unai Emery’s men, who take fourth spot despite obtaining two fewer points than their sixth-placed 2024-25 total.
