Idrissa Gueye in line for Everton exit’ as personal terms offered

Idrissa Gana Gueye’s future is still up in the air as Everton prepare to move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a matter of months.

The Senegal international is one of several senior players who the Toffees are still in discussions with over a new contract, with David Moyes keen to keep him as part of his squad as they move to L5.

Recent reports have emerged that Gueye wasn’t content with the offer he received from Everton, and was holding out for a longer deal.

The midfielder is now 35, but remained a key part of the squad last season, amassing 37 appearances in the Premier League, and it’s clear that Moyes still sees use for him at the club.

Gana Gueye ‘has not accepted contract offer’ as Turkish links emerge

Gueye had initially been happy about receiving an offer from Everton, but as the talks have progressed, things have seemingly soured between the veteran midfielder and the club.

That has led to Ligue 1 outfits Rennes and Paris FC expressing their interest in taking the 35-year-old to France this summer.

It now looks as though Gueye could have another potential avenue become available to him, as Turkish side Trabzonspor have now added him to a list of candidates to strengthen their midfield, according to Fotospor (19 June).

He has been outlined as one of Trabzonspor’s primary summer targets, and it is understood that his impending free agent status has attracted the interest of several other clubs.

Fotospor also added that Gueye “has not accepted” the initial one-year contract offer that was tabled to him by Everton.

Everton should stay firm in their offer

Gueye has proven this season, and particularly since Moyes’ return, that he still has plenty to give in the Premier League.

The Senegalese star has now been at the Toffees for six years across two spells sandwiched either side of a stint with PSG, and it is understandable that Everton want to keep a man who is such a reliable and consistent performer.

However, with the midfielder having seemingly rejected Everton’s initial contract offer, they shouldn’t alter their terms as a result of their desire to keep hold of him.

At 35, it would be unwise to offer Gueye anything more than the initial one-year deal that has been on the table, as the Merseysiders would then leave themselves open to being stuck with him if his career begins to fade away.

It would undoubtedly be frustrating for Everton to lose him, but they should be prepared to turn their back on Gueye if offering him a lengthy deal is the only way to keep him.
