Celtic fans laugh as Rangers agree first deal of 49ers era

Celtic fans have been told by many that they need be more worried about the Rangers following their takeover by an American consortium consisting of 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh. Of course, the Hoops have been the best team in Scottish football for a long time. But the suggestion is that added investment into Ibrox could bring an end to that run.

Well, if the early signs are anything to go by, that might not be the case. The Ibrox club have already completed one signing this summer but that pre-contract with Lyall Cameron was agreed back in Febaruary.

Now, they are closing in on their first signing of the 49ers era. As reported by Sky Sports, Rangers have agreed a deal with Bournemouth for defender Max Aarons.

It is a straight loan with no obligation for a permanent move. That does not sound like the 49ers era that Celtic fans were warned about earlier in the summer, that if for sure.

Of course, many Celtic fans were quick to let their feelings be known about the Rangers’ first deal of the 49ers era. One wrote: “Richest club in Scotland they said hahahaha.”

Another Celtic fan said: “What’s this, the Govan intergalacticos with more money than all the quazillonaires in the interstellar super charged galaxy…are loaning with no option to buy?!”

Well, it is safe to say that this is not the type of move that will have Celtic worried. Of course, that is not to say that Aarons could not turn out to be a decent addition for the Rangers.

But the fact of the matter is that he was not a key part of the Bournemouth team, which is why they were ready to loan him out. The last time he played any consistent football was back in his days at Norwich City.

Let’s see how things go for Aarons in Glasgow. But if the Rangers want to end Celtic’s run, they might need to aim a bit higher.
