Newcastle United could agree a £20million deal for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as “he’s got to go somewhere” this summer.

The England international spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa after making the move to Villa Park in January.

The 27-year-old registered four goals and six assists in 17 appearances for Unai Emery’s side before picking up a hamstring injury.

The Sun reported on 18 June Newcastle are ready to offer Rashford the “perfect platform” to reignite his career at St James’ Park.

The newspaper said the Tyneside club would prefer a year-long loan deal for the forward, who is keen on playing Champions League football next season.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Newcastle are one of a small group of clubs who could sign Rashford.

Football Insider revealed on 4 June Man United are keen to sell Rashford this summer, but they have not ruled out another loan spell.

He is believed to be on around £325,000 a week at Old Trafford, with his contract set to run until 2028.

Marcus Rashford would be Newcastle’s highest-paid star

Borson revealed Rashford could cost Newcastle up to £20million a year due to his significant wages.

He told Football Insider: “If somebody wants to buy him, Newcastle are in that small group of clubs who could make it work.

“Now, clearly at £325,000 or whatever it is, he’d be probably the highest earner at Newcastle by probably quite some way.

“He would probably be something like 8 per cent of their total wage bill. It might be as much as 11 per cent or something of their player wage bill on one player.

“It must be unlikely that deal happens. It’s not impossible. He’s got to go somewhere, right? He can’t go back to United.

“You look at the number of clubs that can afford a wage of £325,000, it’s £20million all in a year, plus his fee. There are just not many teams that can do it.

“He’s got to go somewhere, so something’s going to have to give. It might be a subsidy from United similar to the Grealish situation, but even with a subsidy, there are still a limited number of people who could take Rashford or that Rashford would go to.

“But Newcastle are definitely on the list. I just think it’s an unlikely deal given what we know about Newcastle at the moment.”

Newcastle make Alexander Isak sale decision

Eddie Howe’s side are believed to be targeting a move for Rashford to provide another option to Alexander Isak rather than replace him.

The Sweden international has been linked with various top clubs following his performances at St James’ Park in recent years.

Newcastle are expected to price rivals out of a move for Isak as they look to keep hold of their star forward this summer.

The 25-year-old registered 27 goals and six assists in 42 appearances in the 2024-25 season, helping his side finish fifth in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup.
