Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of landing Christian Norgaard now appear to be slipping away as multiple sources are now reporting that Arsenal have achieved a big breakthrough in their efforts to land the Brentford star.
It only emerged a couple of days ago that Arsenal had joined Tottenham in the race to land Christian Norgaard, but the transfer saga has progressed very quickly since then.
It was revealed earlier today that Arsenal had stolen a march on Tottenham by launching an offer for Norgaard, and it was claimed that the 31-year-old was in favour of a move to the Emirates.
It was subsequently suggested by TBR Football that Spurs had not given up on the midfielder just yet, with Thomas Frank having told Daniel Levy to bring Norgaard to Hotspur Way, but it now appears that the Lilywhites are fighting a losing battle.
Arsenal agree personal terms with Christian Norgaard
Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that the Gunners have reached an agreement on personal terms with the Brentford captain.
The journalist says that Norgaard has informed the Bees of his desire to move to the Emirates, with the two clubs continuing conversations following the over €10m (£8.5m) offer from the London side.
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s David Ornstein puts the value of Arsenal’s offer at €11m (£9.3m) and he too confirms that the Denmark international wants to join Mikel Arteta’s side.
While Ornstein says that the deal is not yet done, in a major blow to Tottenham Hotspur, he adds that Arsenal are now ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with Brentford regarding the midfielder.
A big setback for Tottenham at the start of the Thomas Frank era
Reports continue to indicate that Yves Bissouma could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer, with the Mali international having just one year left on his contract.
It has been widely reported that signing a defensive midfielder is one of Frank’s top priorities this summer, and one would assume that the Brentford star was near the top of the Spurs boss’ wishlist.
It was claimed by one source that Frank believed Norgaard would add tactical discipline and leadership qualities to Spurs, along with a detailed understanding of his system. It will thus come as a huge blow for the 51-year-old to miss out on his trusted midfield general.
