Photographs from David Moyes’ first training session back at Everton show the returning manager getting back into the thick of the action at Finch Farm. The Scot was confirmed as Sean Dyche’s replacement at 9am on Saturday and images taken at Everton’s Halewood base on Monday before Moyes’ first press conference show him settling back into some familiar surroundings.
Moyes is pictured alongside Everton’s new assistant manager Billy McKinlay who previously served him in a similar capacity at previous club West Ham United, while Leighton Baines, who has been promoted from his position as Under-18s coach to work with the first team, is shown working alongside the senior players.
As well as being photographed issuing instructions to members of the first team squad – including fellow Glaswegian Nathan Patterson who struggled to get regular minutes under predecessor Dyche – Moyes, who famously took Everton’s warm-up session on the Goodison Park pitch ahead of his first game in 2002 when he was still just 38 – showed that he is still willing to muck in at 61 as one shot showed him putting out the disc cones for a drill.
Also, as the man who coined “The People’s Club” tag for Everton, Moyes, wearing a woolly hat on a bitterly cold January day, displayed his ability to show the common touch towards the complex’s unsung heroes as he was snapped in conversation with members of the Finch Farm ground staff.
