Everton have contacted Juventus in recent hours over a possible move for Arthur Melo, according to Tutto Juve.
The news outlet reports (20 January) that the Toffees made their approach with the entourage of the 28-year-old.
Real Betis are also in talks with the former Barcelona star over a move before the 3 February deadline, but negotiations are at a standstill for now.
It is said the Blues could now put their foot down to seal the move.
Everton should stay away from Arthur Melo transfer
Arthur was a key player at Barcelona once upon a time, but injuries have led to his prospects dwindling over the years.
The Brazilian signed for Juventus in 2020 and has been unable to cement his place at the Italian outfit.
In the summer of 2022, the 28-year-old joined Liverpool on loan but hardly played for the Reds due to his fitness issues.
Everton should be wary of signing the midfielder, considering the failure of his previous stint in the Premier League.
Arthur Everton
Everton transfer target Arthur Melo at Fiorentina.
While Arthur managed to get back to his best last season at Fiorentina, he once again finds himself on the brink of obscurity in Turin.
David Moyes needs players he can rely on in the coming months, with the Toffees fighting relegation.
Goodison Park is in its final campaign, and the Blues can’t afford to go down to the Championship ahead of their move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
While Arthur could be signed in a bargain deal, considering his situation at Juventus, the Merseyside outfit would benefit from pursuing other targets.
