The former defender believes that while the Toffees still play direct football, they have more quality rather than playing aimless long balls.
Carragher took James Tarkowski’s assist for Beto in the 4-0 victory against Leicester City at Goodison Park on 1 February as an example of how things have changed under the Scotsman.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (3 February), the ex-defender said: “When you talk about things that are slightly different, remember there was a clip where Tarkowski had the ball away at Bournemouth, and he just played an aimless long ball into the front man.
“He sees Beto [against Leicester]. But this time, it’s not a long ball to the chest or his head; it’s actually a nice ball down the side. They’re looking forward. They’re being direct but with more quality. So that’s the bit of nuance different with Moyes.”
The Goodison faithful weren’t pleased by their style of play under Dyche and wanted the former Burnley manager to leave long before his sacking.
While Moyes’s appointment wasn’t the most exciting from a neutral perspective, most of the Toffees’ supporters were delighted with his return.
