Newcastle United fans were led to believe the club was signing the next big thing back in 2023 when we agreed to take Australian sensation Garang Kuol from Central Coast Mariners.
The youngster had broken into the Aussie international side and even went with them to the Qatar World Cup where he made a few appearances, enough that made his work permit application to play in England much easier to obtain.
Kuol arrived at Newcastle on a wave of hype but the plan was always to send him out on loan when he arrived with Shola Ameobi finding a spot for him at Hearts in the Scottish Premier League.
That loan proved to be a disaster with Kuol’s game time extremely limited. It was a similar story the following season with Kuol heading to FC Volendam who were fighting at the wrong end of the Dutch Eredivisie
This season an injury prevented him from moving out on loan in the summer, but there’s still a chance that the 20-year-old could move this month.
Australian side Mcarthur FC are weighing up the possibility of a loan move to bring Kuol back home for six months according to Australian outlet AAP.
The Australian transfer window is open until 12th February so a deal for Kuol doesn’t have to be done today for it to happen.
A move back home may just be what Kuol needs
A spell back home might just be what Kuol needs to get his head on straight, then he could come back in the summer and finally prove his worth to Eddie Howe.
Kuol has been spotted training with the first team after putting together a few impressive appearances for the Under 21s.
Let’s hope that the Kuol and Newcastle loan curses leave this one alone and it all goes through and the spell goes off without a hitch. We’d love to see the young Aussie fulfil his potential.
