Ange Postecoglou will be fortunate to see out the remainder of the season with Tottenham.
Despite advancing to the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a victory against AZ Alkmaar, Tottenham are still on course for a failure of a season.
Of course, if they were to win the competition, it would be a slightly different performance, but their position in the Premier League has left a lot to be desired.
As a result, Postecoglou has been under increasing amounts of pressure, and it may only be a matter of time until he faces the sack.
Postecoglou in line for Tottenham sack
After Postecoglou famously claimed that he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club, it appears as though he has set himself up for failure at Tottenham, and it could only be a matter of time until Daniel Levy pulls the trigger.
However, if and when that decision is made, Spurs will need to replace him adequately, and Paul Robinson, when speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, believes that Marco Silva could be an option.
“Marco Silva at Fulham. I think he’s done an excellent job,” Robinson said.
“I think he’s another one that doesn’t often get talked about when so-called big jobs come up at big football clubs. I mean, with a proven track record in the Premier League of working with a less squad, if you like, and less of a budget.
“But the due diligence has to be right on the manager now. You can employ as many managers as you want, but you have to back the manager with players and funds. If you spoke to the managers, honestly, I suspect there’s Conte and Mourinho.
“Those two will both tell you that they weren’t backed in the way that they wanted to be backed with the players they needed.”
Tottenham must get manager appointment right
As Robinson alluded to, it doesn’t mean a lot in terms of who is in the dugout if they aren’t then provided with the tools to achieve success.
However, while true, it also has to be the right man to lead the team forward, and Postecoglou is evidently not the right fit for that.
This summer will be huge for Tottenham, in terms of the next manager but also recruitment, which has also played a big role in their recent regression.
