West Ham United goalscorer Tomas Soucek paid tribute to Everton’s supporters as Jarrod Bowen hailed David Moyes as a great manager. The Hammers looked set to end Everton’s eight-game unbeaten run after Soucek opened the scoring at Goodison Park just after the hour mark.

However, Jake O’Brien rescued the Blues a point when he headed home a cross from Idrissa Gueye a minute into stoppage time. And it could all have been all three points for the home side, but Carlos Alcaraz dragged an effort wide in the closing stages.

There are now just four games at Goodison remaining before Everton make the move to Bramley-Moore Dock. And Soucek, who has played at the Old Lady on a number of occasions in recent years, was quick to praise Blues supporters after the game.

We have to be disappointed.

“They didn’t lose for nine games, so it’s tough to play here. They have great fans and it’s their last few games in the stadium.

“We improved in the second half. We said we don’t want to be always under pressure; we want to do something with the result.”

Saturday’s game was the first time Moyes had faced the club he left in the summer following the conclusion of his contract. The Scot received a warm reception from Hammers supporters and said afterwards that his bond with them was unbreakable.

And Bowen, who won the UEFA Conference League under Moyes, was quick to pay tribute to his former boss, saying: “It was good to see him even in a different dugout.

“He produced so much for this club, and to play a part in that is a memory that will live forever. A great person as well as a great manager.”

Reflecting on the draw, the England international said: “Today we could have won the game, conceding late.

“In the second half especially, we stamped our authority and it’s not easy to come here. We were in a really good place and obviously they get a goal at the end, which was probably fair.

“I think between now until the end of the season is about putting in good performances. There are a lot of points to be made up to finish the season on a high. It is a case to keep going.”
