With normality almost resuming in the Everton camp, Moyes must assess his options ahead of a huge Merseyside Derby next Wednesday night.

Liverpool are inches away from the Premier League title so Evertonians would love nothing more than to provide a scare to their hopes.

It will be a testing fixture for the Toffees who have seen their form slip slightly, but motivation will be a key factor.

Seamus Coleman has been the motivator at Everton as the full-back might be needed for the encounter after what’s just happened to Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Everton have the chance to make it ten Premier League games unbeaten if defeat is avoided at Anfield.

But Mykolenko’s setback could provide a real blow to that happening.

The likes of Jordan Pickford and Armando Broja are in action on Monday night as Moyes will be hoping no more injuries occur.

Matters have been made even worse for Mykolenko after what Ukraine Manager, Serhiy Rebrov, said about the Everton full-back in his post-match interview.

Ukraine lost out 3-0 to Belgium after a late flurry of goals came after Mykolenko was substituted in the 69th minute in what appears to be a thigh injury.

“Unfortunately, he has an injury, he will do an MRI, we’ll see,” Rebrov said.

“I know Vitaliy. If he didn’t continue playing, then the injury was really serious.”

Moyes’ Everton options for Liverpool in Mykolenko’s absence

It’s certainly not an ideal circumstance for the Everton boss as not only is Mykolenko’s injury a real blow, but the replacement who will be unfamiliar with the position will have to face arguably the most in-form player in the world at the moment in Mohamed Salah.

It’s unfortunate as Mykolenko was defensively sound vs Belgium in the first-leg and it was 0-0 when he left the pitch, proving his value to the national side.

Well, his value will certainly be proven to Everton as Moyes will be scrambling for a replacement at left-back.

The Scotsman currently has the option of either playing a 39-year-old Ashley Young, using Jarrad Branthwaite’s left foot to his advantage instead of centre-back, a potential first-team call-up for young Roman Dixon, or risking a fitness-concerned Nathan Patterson.

Whatever is done it will certainly disadvantage Everton, as Moyes’ wish for a left-back in January has come back to bite The Friedkin Group.
