Tottenham Hotspur fans have not held back in their criticism of Ange Postecoglou after his latest excuse for the club’s disastrous season, questioning how a manager of his stature could underestimate the demands of European football.
Tottenham Hotspur fans will be hoping that the end of the 2024/25 season is a lot better than the start.
This campaign has been nothing short of frustrating, especially after the promise of last season, when Postecoglou’s Spurs finished fifth and narrowly missed out on Champions League football.
But this time around, it has been a disaster. The Australian is currently on track to lead Tottenham to their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era, leaving fans disillusioned and angry.

Ange Postecoglou has spoken about Tottenham’s struggles this season, admitting he has made mistakes and would do things differently if given the chance.
He said “I think we got the start of the year wrong… I think we went into the season really hard and underestimated the challenges of Europe with the two extra games, having a cup run… all those things.”
That admission has not gone down well with Tottenham fans, many of whom are baffled that a manager with his experience could fail to prepare for the demands of European football.
One fan did not hold back: “This statement doesn’t show anything other than his own naivety then. We knew in the summer. Why didn’t he? Not doing himself any favours here.”
Another added: “For all those journalists who keep on talking about Ange’s experience in Japan, Australia and other parts of the world, this must be an eye-opener. How on earth did he get the Tottenham job and underestimate the challenges of Europe? Shocking thing to say.”
Another fumed: “How stupid does Ange & the people in charge have to be to ‘underestimate’ the demands of being in Europe, when we already had a massive injury crisis under Ange playing one game per week last season??”
A bemused fan wrote: “Ange is surprised that Tottenham, a club that historically is in Europe more often than not, has a European schedule to contend with.”
Another pointed out: “He bottled top four last year playing once every seven to 10 days by losing the last six games of the season… now he plays two games a week, his methodology and tactics don’t work in the Premier League. Too many excuses… the newest one is too many games. Get rid ASAP!”
