Tottenham Hotspur are already putting plans in place for the summer transfer window despite pressure mounting on manager Ange Postecoglou.
Marquee signing Dominic Solanke has failed to hit the ground running. The Englishman joined Spurs last summer from Premier League rivals Bournemouth for a sizeable fee, and it was seen as a perfect signing to replace Harry Kane. However, his first season at N17 has not gone according to plan.
Solanke’s fellow forwards have also struggled to deliver the goods. Son Heung-min looks past his prime now, while Richarlison is expected to be offloaded at the end of the season amid interest from Everton. Timo Werner is set to return to RB Leipzig after his loan deal expires in June. A decision on Mathys Tel’s future is expected to be taken, perhaps at the end of May.
With the futures of several forwards uncertain, Spurs are now seemingly looking to bolster their attacking unit ahead of the 2025/26 season.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are among three Premier League clubs to have emerged as the leading candidates to sign Manchester City star Jack Grealish. Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also firmly in the race for the Cityzens’ winger.
Jack Grealish moved to Manchester City in 2021 for a fee of staggering £100million from Aston Villa, but despite playing a key role in the club’s historic treble success only a couple of years ago, he’s largely struggled to find his way in recent months. The England international has failed to nail down a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s side this season, thanks to injury problems as well as competition in wide areas of the pitch.
The 29-year-old has managed only seven Premier League starts, and he could be on the move this summer with no shortage of suitors. The aforementioned report adds Man City are open to listening to offers for Grealish as they look to overhaul their squad after a disappointing season. He will have two years left on his contract in June, so the Sky Blues will expect a sizeable fee to sell him.
Tottenham are among the admirers of Grealish’s talents and versatility. The ex-Villa star will provide a different dynamic to their attack and bolster their chances of competing for a top-four spot next season. Spurs already have a forward line of Solanke, Johnson and Son, but adding the England international will give them some much-needed quality from wide areas.
However, Grealish’s hefty £300,000-a-week wages could be a stumbling block in Spurs’ pursuit. If he decides to lower his wages and City asks for a reasonable fee, Daniel Levy may then up the ante to beat Newcastle and Villa to the fleet-footed winger’s signature.
