Breaking Update: Eddie Howe categorically bans players from dressing room …..

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has warned his players to focus on nothing but the job in hand against Everton.

Fans will have a nervous eye on their smartphones with games between Nottingham Forest and Chelsea plus Aston Villa’s trip to Manchester United the key fixtures from a Newcastle point of view. Man City’s last day encounter at Fulham may also be significant if the Cottagers pull off a shock and give the Magpies the chance to snatch third place.

But the ultimate goal for Newcastle is three points that will guarantee them a place around Europe’s top table. Howe, who ran the rule over Alexander Isak on Saturday morning with a late decision expected, told Chronicle Live: “I hope that there will be no communication from the bench. Because that is wasted energy and emotion unless it directly affects what we are doing on the pitch.

“But I think coaches, having an idea, if needed, we will look at that. But for the players, it is about winning the game, and they don’t need to focus on anything else.”

Newcastle players know they are just 90 minutes away from being rewarded for their efforts this season. Dan Burn has already spoken about the focus required on the big day but when asked if the players needed much of a team talk, Howe said: “You always need direction, help, and support. And that’s what our job is to provide that support and allow them to concentrate on playing at their best level.

“But I think a football team needs to be directed. Team talks are something that are talked about and a lot is put on them. But for me it is about constant direction rather than one big speech. That’s what we try to do.”
