Wolves has made their feelings known on Tommy Doyle as Sunderland, two others lurk around

The 23-year-old has made 50 Premier League appearances for Wanderers in the past two seasons, but he fell out of favour after Vitor Pereira’s appointment in December.

The Portuguese coach made it clear that Doyle wasn’t suited to his style of play, and Doyle even failed to make the matchday squad on some occasions.

Therefore, a summer move always appeared to be on the cards for the ex-England U21 international, and journalist Liam Keen has confirmed Wolves’ stance on the player, as well as stating that Wrexham, Birmingham and Sunderland are among those monitoring Doyle.

He explained that whilst they would rather Doyle leave on loan, there is an understanding that he will move on this summer, so they are open to a permanent sale at the right price.

As part of the agreement that brought Doyle to Molineux, Man City will be entitled to 50% of the profit if the midfielder does move on permanently, with Wolves having signed the player for around £4.3m.

Tommy Doyle could become a key player in the Championship

It’s no surprise that there is genuine interest in Doyle, because he is a very good player who needs game time, which isn’t going to come at Wolves.

Unfortunately for him, he lacks the physicality to play in Pereira’s side, and it’s clear a move is required for the sake of his career.

If Sunderland firm up their interest with an offer, they will be an attractive option due to their Premier League status, although Doyle is sure to want guarantees of first-team football.

But, if Wrexham or Blues can convince him to drop to the Championship, it would be a real coup. The Man City academy graduate boasts an excellent passing range, he plays with bite and he can deliver a good set-piece.
