West Ham United will be without star player Mohammed Kudus for the Premier League clash against Manchester United at the weekend.
However, they could potentially face being without him for longer if the FA releases a statement on the incident against Tottenham.The 24-year-old was shown a straight red card in the closing stages of West Ham’s 4-1 loss against Tottenham on Saturday after a VAR review. Footage showed him raising his hands towards the face of his opponents on two occasions during a scuffle between the players at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The red card for violent conduct means that Kudus faces an automatic three-game ban, starting against United on Sunday. However, the FA have confirmed that they have now charged the player, meaning he could face an extended suspension if found guilty.
West Ham have also been handed an FA charge of their own for the scuffle. The FA released a statement on the incident on Tuesday.
“Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Mohammed Kudus have been charged following their Premier League match on Saturday, 19 October. Tottenham Hotspur allegedly failed to ensure that their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 82nd minute.
“West Ham United allegedly failed to ensure that their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way at the same time. Mohammed Kudus allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used violent conduct after the offence that he was sent off for.
“Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Mohammed Kudus have until Thursday, 24 October, to provide their responses.”
West Ham currently sit in 15th place in the table, three points behind United in 12th position. Kudus has started in every Premier League game for the Hammers so far this campaign and has scored in each of his last two matches.
