Premier League football made its highly anticipated return this weekend and it didn’t fail to deliver. Tottenham Hotspur stunned reigning champions Manchester City while Liverpool moved eight points clear and Arsenal made up ground in their title push.
Top-flight football was sorely missed after the final international break took centre-stage for two weeks with countries battling it out in the Nations League or their respective World Cup or Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ange Postecoglou’s side inflicted fresh misery on Pep Guardiola, fresh off his one-year extension at the Etihad Stadium, with James Maddison scoring twice as Spurs romped to a 4-0 win in the North West.
Before their encounter on Saturday evening, Arsenal returned to winning ways, overcoming Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium. On the south coast, Liverpool avoided a shock against rock-bottom Southampton after Mohamed Salah’s double helped increase their lead at the Premier League summit in a 3-2 win.
This weekend wasn’t without it’s controversy with a heated altercation off-camera after a top-flight fixture and there was also another managerial casualty.

Former Manchester United midfielder and Ipswich manager Roy Keane was involved in a heated altercation with a supporter.
It was reported that one supporter from the upper tier shouted: “F*** you Keane.” But in fresh footage that surfaced online, the Irishman can be heard saying: “It’s no problem abusing me… [inaudible] meet me in the carpark to discuss it. I’ll wait for you in the car park, I’ll wait for you in the car park.”
