There has been renewed speculation in recent weeks that Newcastle United will reignite their interest in Marc Guehi, after failing to sign him in the summer.
While Marc Guehi remains Newcastle United’s top centre-back target, it could once again be difficult for the Magpies to strike a deal with Crystal Palace when the transfer window reopens.
It is claimed that Newcastle would need Crystal Palace to lower their asking price for Guehi to £50million, after the Eagles demanded as much as £75million in the summer.
But money is not the only problem when it comes to Guehi possibly leaving Selhurst Park in January.

Geordie Boot Boys have been told by TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey that it is now very unlikely that Guehi will be sold in January, with Crystal Palace reluctant to weaken their squad given their current position in the Premier League.
“Selling Guehi mid-season is a big issue for Crystal Palace,” he said.
“They do not want to do a mid-season deal, while Guehi is not pushing to leave. Their predicament in the Premier League does not help either, given they are in a relegation battle currently.
“All indications are now that Guehi will not move in January, for multiple reasons. Come the summer, he will move. He won’t sign a new deal at Selhurst Park.
“He will be the subject of interest in the summer, but it does not look like it is going to happen in January, from what we are hearing from Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Guehi.”
Why Newcastle will find it hard to sign Guehi in the summer
While Newcastle United will get a fresh chance to sign Guehi in the summer of 2025, that could present different problems.
Once the summer arrives, Guehi will be in the final year of his Crystal Palace contract. That will result in him being sold, as Palace will not want to lose him for free the following year, while the 24-year-old does not want to sign a new deal.
But Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Guehi will have more suitors next summer, with Chelsea interested in bringing the defender back to Stamford Bridge after selling him in 2021.
“Chelsea are one of the clubs that are now interested,” he said.
“I believe the summer was probably Newcastle’s best chance to get him. He was one who Eddie Howe wanted and the club did a lot of work on him.
“It’s not to say a deal will not happen in the future, but it is going to be much more difficult in the summer with more clubs interested.”
