Southampton set new Tyler Dibling price tag as Newcastle United wait to swoop

Newcastle United had been told that Tyler Dibling was unavailable this month.
The Southampton teenager is attracting a lot of attention, with Newcastle United interested in signing the teenage attacker.
That is no surprise, as Newcastle tried to sign Dibling when Dan Ashworth was in charge.
Now Paul Mitchell is calling the shots, but Dibling remains on the Magpies’ radar. However, he is on the radar of a lot of clubs. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have been linked, as well as Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.
A 2025 transfer appears to beckon, but Southampton do not want to sell Dibling in January.

That is fine for Newcastle United, as the Magpies do not have enough funds to make any major signings during the January transfer window.
However, there could be an opportunity for Newcastle’s competitors, with a new report from Sky Sports hinting that a January exit from St Mary’s could be possible for Dibling.
According to Sky Sports, Southampton will only listen to offers for Dibling this month that are worth at least £55million.
They add that the Saints want to keep the 18-year-old until the summer. However, this at least hints that a January deal is possible – if any club is prepared to pay a premium.

Where Dibling would rank among Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever
However, Newcastle United will not be that club.
It has been reported that Newcastle are unlikely to sign any senior players, even with the financial boost that the club are about to receive from Miguel Almiron’s looming departure.
At £55million, Dibling would be one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.
In fact, he would be joint second with Sandro Tonali, who also cost £55million. He is now proving to be money well spent.
Alexander Isak remains the most expensive player in Toon history, costing £63million.
While Newcastle are surely willing to splash out on Dibling given their interest, they will not be able to offer enough money in January. Instead, it is more likely that Newcastle will wait until the summer to approach Dibling.
Hopefully he still a Southampton player by then.
