Crystal Palace saw a goal disallowed in their clash with Everton
The Premier League have explained that there was ‘no conclusive evidence’ to award Jefferson Lerma’s goal from a corner in Crystal Palace‘s clash with Everton on Saturday.
The midfielder thought he had scored, only for the referee to chalk the goal off due to the ball going out of play. VAR checked but the angles at Selhurst Park did not allow the goal to be given.
And it has now been explained why the goal was not awarded to Palace – due to the camera angles not being good enough to determine whether the ball actually went out of play or not. That forced the officials to stick with the on-field call.
A statement read: “VAR checked and confirmed the referee’s call of no goal due to the ball being out of play, with no conclusive evidence that the on-field decision was incorrect.”
A number of fans took to social media to voice their anger at the decision. One supporter wrote: “No way these are the only camera angles for VAR for this Lerma goal. Wow. This is absolutely awful and needs changing without a doubt.”
Another said: “That Lerma goal being ruled out is a joke. From the (terrible) angles shown, I cannot see how that ball went out of play. What is the point of VAR in that instance if there is no proper angle to verify?”
A final fan wrote: “What a joke no clear and obvious error but not clear if whole ball had gone out. What difference would it make anyhow. That’s a Lerma goal end of.”

Palace had a number of chances to take the lead in their clash with Everton but found England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to be a formidable opponent. Ismaila Sarr also went close but thundered an effort off of the crossbar.
And Everton took huge advantage late in the first-half as Beto continued his hot form to open the scoring. Carlos Alcaraz picked off an awful throw from Tyrique Mitchell aimed for Lerma. He then fed Beto, who netted his fourth Premier League goal in three games. Jean-Philippe Mateta was on hand to equalise just moments after the break.
