Newcastle United are currently preparing for one of the biggest games in the club’s history on Sunday 16 March when they face Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.

The Magpies are on a two-match losing streak at the moment after being beaten by Liverpool in the Premier League and then knocked out of the FA Cup against Brighton.

Eddie Howe’s side play West Ham on Monday (10 March) in a Premier League fixture the Toon Amy will be hoping creates some momentum.

However, Newcastle have already been handed a significant blow ahead of the EFL Cup final as Anthony Gordon is suspended.

The England international was sent off against Brighton for a blatant off-the-ball push to Jan Paul van Hecke, which has cost Gordon the chance to play at Wembley for the Magpies.

Newcastle fans admitted they lost respect for Gordon after the incident as supporters felt that it was an uncalled-for action.

Newcastle are ‘imploding’ before the EFL Cup final

The injury news has been met with devastation from Newcastle fans who have admitted that this is a “huge blow” to their chances against Liverpool.

Fans believe that it is a “major setback” not just for the EFL Cup final, but also for the rest of the season in Newcastle’s bid to secure Champions League football.

Gutted for Lewis Hall, has been one of our stand out players this season. He had two great games against Mo Salah this season and was looking forward to watching them again in the final. Wish him all the best in his recovery. #NUFC https://t.co/wsFyKoTIUJ

Huge blow. I swear we’re cursed when it comes to huge history-changing games. Just annoying it happened against Liverpool. 🙄🤦😒🤦😩🤦😒

However, we still have to keep the faith going there. There’s always a chance no matter the opposition. Tino to LB, as he played really well…

Absolutely gutted for Lewis. One of our player’s of the season so far (easily our most improved) and such a key part of the team at both ends.

Hopefully Livramento can stay fit and step up at LB.

    Speedy recovery ⚫️⚪️
