Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has caused a stir online with some of his picks for each Premier League club’s player of the season in a recent interview. The former Liverpool defender is not shy of making outlandish claims and predictions, with his early-season forecasts a staple of the opening editions of Monday Night Football each campaign.
Speaking to GOAL, the 47-year-old was tasked with giving a quick-fire response for each team’s best player this term, and while some were straightforward, others have caused people to raise eyebrows—especially his pick for Chelsea’s player of the season.

Carragher Picks Cole Palmer as Chelsea’s Player of the Season
The Englishman has not scored since January

Going in alphabetical order, the first few teams provided rather easy picks for Carragher, who selected Declan Rice as Arsenal‘s POTY, recent England debutant Morgan Rogers as Aston Villa’s, and Liverpool target Milos Kerkez as Bournemouth’s.
Carragher gave props to one of the most underrated players on the planet today in Yoane Wissa, as he selected him as Brentford’s choice, while young midfielder Carlos Baleba was Brighton’s pick. However, the most shocking selection was that of Cole Palmer for Chelsea.
While Palmer is undoubtedly one of, if not the most talented player at Stamford Bridge, he has endured a torrid time since the start of the calendar year, with several people accusing manager Enzo Maresca of ruining him.
To round out the top half of the table, Carragher opted for Jean-Philippe Mateta over Eberechi Eze for Crystal Palace, Jordan Pickford for Everton, Antonee Robinson for Fulham, and the much-wanted Liam Delap for relegated Ipswich Town.

Carragher Names His Pick for Liverpool’s Player of the Year
Several stars were key to Liverpool’s title-winning campaign

Continuing on with Leicester City, which may have been one of the tougher picks given how bad their season was, Carragher went for goalkeeper Mads Hermansen before declaring Mohamed Salah as Liverpool‘s top man from their title-winning campaign. While there were several standouts at Anfield, it is hard to argue with the player who has managed 46 goal contributions in the division alone.
Erling Haaland and Bruno Fernandes were the picks for the respective Manchester clubs in two disappointing campaigns, while Alexander Isak took Newcastle’s, as former Magpie Chris Wood was beaten to Nottingham Forest’s by Morgan Gibbs-White.
Young Southampton star Tyler Dibling took the honour for the Saints, while English stars James Maddison and Jarrod Bowen were Tottenham and West Ham’s. That left Matheus Cunha to take Wolves’ pick ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.
