Everton are preparing an “improved bid” for West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Football Insider.
It has been a summer of change for Everton, who embarked on their first transfer window under new ownership whilst moving away from Goodison Park to the Hill Dickinson Stadium. With David Moyes at the helm, there is a sense of optimism around the Toffees for the first time in years.
At the time of writing, Everton have made eight additions to their squad, spending big money on Tyler Dibling, Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall whilst recruiting defender Adam Aznou, goalkeepers Mark Travers and Tom King, and permanently signing midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, who had been at the club on loan.
The Toffees have also added Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City, who could prove to be an incredible signing if he rediscovers the form he displayed with Aston Villa prior to his big-money move. Now, recent reports have indicated that the Merseyside club are keen on further reinforcing their midfield options.
Everton Keen on Soucek
Football Insider have reported that Everton are planning to submit another bid for Tomas Soucek, who has spent over five years with West Ham. Under the management of a certain David Moyes, Soucek was a crucial part of the Hammers team that, in 2023, won the Conference League amidst regular top-half finishes in the Premier League.
On a wage of £90,000 per week, Soucek’s importance has lessened under Potter, particularly after the arrival of the aforementioned Magassa and Fernandes. As such, the Czech international may be allowed to depart the London Stadium before the transfer deadline and at Everton, would become an important part of the squad.
Currently, Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner, Idrissa Gana Gueye and new signing Dewsbury-Hall are options for Moyes in his midfield pivot spots. In Soucek, dubbed a “really good goal-scorer,” the Scot would be drafting in Premier League experience and could perhaps negotiate a shrewd fee for a player who, seemingly, West Ham would be willing to part ways with.
At 30 years old, Soucek still feasibly has time at the top level remaining and Moyes, no doubt, would offer the midfielder consistent football.
