Leeds United look set to sell multiple first-team players this summer, some of those fringe players while one could be a major outgoing.
Especially because of the new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules, it would seemingly be in United’s interests to sell some of the players on the fringes of Daniel Farke’s squad.
Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto would appear to be the most obvious candidates. Then, returning loan players such as Jack Harrison also being linked with permanent moves away.
According to reports, Leeds are said to be open to the sale of a regular under Farke last season. Due to his contract, the club’s hand may be forced.
Leeds United open to the sale of Pascal Struijk this summer
Pascal Struijk, 26, was arguably United’s best centre-half last season as the Whites ultimately finished 14th.
Struijk made 34 Premier League appearances last season. And, the partnership he built up with Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol in the three-at-the-back formation was a pivotal reason as to why Leeds were so successful.
However, the Dutch defender about to enter the final year of his deal in West Yorkshire. And, TEAMtalk report that Leeds would be open to selling the defender this summer if the right offer came in.
Leeds are said to value their defender in the region of £20-25million. You would anticipate that there would be no shortage of suitors for Struijk at that price.
If we are open to selling Struijk, you would imagine this is because the 49ers are not confident of agreeing a contract extension with Struijk, who has been at Leeds since 2018.
Leeds United should do everything they can to keep Pascal Struijk
Say, for example, Leeds wanted to sign a defender of Struijk’s quality, on a long contract, it could cost at least £50million. That’s especially after the season the Dutchman enjoyed in West Yorkshire.
That is why the 49ers must do everything they can to agree fresh terms with Struijk over the summer. The centre-half is playing the best football of his career since Farke took over.
Even if the 49ers need to considerably increase Struijk’s wages, it may be worth considering. Capology suggest that Struijk currently earns around £62,500 per week.
However, if the Whites cannot get Struijk to put pen to paper on a new deal, it may be the wise thing to cut our losses and sell Struijk this summer. That’s opposed to losing him on a free transfer in 2027.
If we were able to raise around £25million for Struijk, this would go a long into helping fund his replacement. Ideally, they would also be left-footed to add that much-needed balance to the backline.
